Notes
Campbell was, with his father Thomas (1763-1854) a leader in a religious reform movement that called for unity among all Christians and a return to Biblical principles; their activities led to the founding of the Christian Church (known today as the Disciples of Christ), and of a seminary at the town of Bethany in Brooke County; the Buffaloe Seminary was conducted out of his home from 1818 to 1822, where minsters of agreeable principals were invited to speak; this item represents a sample of what was preached at the seminary, as well as being Campbell's first foray into publishing; in 1822, he established his own press at Bethany. Sermons reproduced here were by Joseph Doddridge, Joseph Rogers, and Joseph Trevor, with an introductory address by Campbell.
