Notes

Imprint lacks a date; most authorities date this title to 1819; however, the use of the Franklin Press imprint without a named printer dates only to mid-1820; at that time, the ownership of that office shifted from William Waller Gray to Nathan Pollard, with its publications then appearing with this generic imprint, leaving some uncertainty as to who printed them; hence this Index attributes such works both men until Pollard's primacy is evinced later in the year. This title marks the beginning of a four-year run of such catalogues produced by Richmond's Franklin Press; Rice was one of the office's principal patrons, as well as primary instructor at the seminary housed at Hampden-Sydney College; his mentor, Archibald Alexander, was the president of the school, and a supporter of Rice's evangelical works, especially his publishing efforts; hence Rice undoubtedly had a hand in assigning this work to the Franklin Press.
