Notes
No copy known extant; Ritchie was ordered to print 250 copies of these documents, along with the auditor's cover letter, on January 18, 1916; Swem records these documents as a separate item from the report itself (1816.005); this title included 1) A statement of the revenue tax for 1814 on land, slaves and other property; 2) Amount of surplus on tobacco from Oct. 1813 to Oct. 1814; 3) Amount of tax on law process, from Sept. 1, 1813 to Sept. 1, 1814; and 4 ) Register’s fees, July 1, 1813 to Aug. 20, 1814. Apparently, Swem also saw a voucher paying Ritchie for printing 250 copies of the revenue-tax statement, assigning it a separate entry number; that occurrence suggests that Ritchie actually had each element of Burfoot's report printed separately; this Index, however, reports just the combined entry. In his covering letter, Burfoot apologized for the delay in submitting his annual report, one occasioned by the lack of clerical help; after hearing other such apologies during this session, the Assembly created several new clerkships in the Executive branch to deal with its ever-increasing workloads.
