1815.068: Petition seeking Improvement of Navigation of James River at Richmond.

Published: 1815

Full Title: To the honorable the Assembly ... petitioners ...

Author: Citizens & Inhabitants of Richmond.

Place Issued: Richmond

Issuing Press: Uncertain

Description: 1 sheet [1 pg.]; 31 cm. x 19 cm. (broadside).

Notes

Petitioners asked for a widening and deepening of James River channel leading to Rockett's Landing (eastern-most Richmond) to allow larger vessels to bring goods up the river to the capitol; the Assembly assented, incorporating a company to undertake the work (Chap. LIII of Acts of December 1815 Assembly). Only known copy, held in the state archives at the Library of Virginia, lacks colophon; item has a clear Richmond focus, and so a certain Richmond origin, but the issuing press cannot be determined from this document alone.
