Notes
First published account of the Richmond Theater Fire, issued within hours of the event; text Includes a list (very incomplete and inaccurate) of the dead as known at that point, as well as the order of the procession planned for a public funeral scheduled for the following day; that planned event did not occur, as the theater site itself became the victims' burial ground, over which was constructed the Monumental Church in their honor. As an extra of the weekly American Standard, this sheet lacks colophon; William Shelton was the proprietor of this short-lived (about 6 weeks) weekly paper, so the attribution here.
