Notes
Imprint states: "Staunton: Published by the author. Isaac Collett, printer." This was the first tract Bourne published in Virginia while he was conducting a school in New Glasgow, east of Lexington, and before he became a minister in the Lexington Presbytery; that ministry was advanced by subsequent religious-publishing efforts in Staunton and Harrisonburg; yet Bourne was driven from Virginia in late 1815 for preaching an ardent antislavery message, which became a major influence in the abolitionist campaigns of the Tappan brothers in New York and William Lloyd Garrison in Boston.
