Notes

Signed in print [p. 7]: "Geo. Miller, chairman; J. McGee, secretary." The pamphlet opposed the Embargo Act of 1807 and the reelection of John G. Jackson (1777–1825), the Republican representative for the 1st Virginia Congressional District from Clarksburg in Harrison County; the district was then comprised of the counties west of the Appalachian ridge; the signers herein were from Ohio County. Only known copy is part of James Madison Pamphlet Collection at the Library of Congress (Jackson was a marriage relation to Madison, as well as a fellow Republican); that item lacks an imprint; given the residence of the signers, that library anachronistically attributed this title to an unnamed "West Virginia" press; the most proximate Virginia press to Ohio County at this time was in Wheeling, but geographically, those printers operating in Pittsburgh were closer; hence, item may not be a Virginia imprint, but it is included here in conformance with the Library of Congress record, as a title of indeterminate Virginia origin.
