Title here joins the interests of three Baptist adherents: Merrill gave these sermons while pastor of a Baptist church at Sedgwick in the District of Maine [not a state until 1820]; Jones was a Baptist minister in Washington County, Virginia, who founded the Rush Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Widener's Valley in 1812; Ustick, son of a Baptist minister, Thomas Ustick (1753-1803), and named for his father's mentor, John Gano (1727-1804), was a Philadelphia-trained printer who came to Abingdon ro start its first printing office in late 1805.
