Notes
Handbill seeking subscribers for what became known as "Bishop Madison's Map" of Virginia published in 1807. Petersburg printer-publisher William Prentis coordinated the project for Madison, after selling his newspaper, the Petersburg Intelligencer, to the two most-senior tradesmen in his office, John Dickson and Edward Pescud, while retaining a financial interest in the office; those circumstances inform attribution here for a sheet without colophon.
