Published: 1797
Full Title: To the honorable ... General Assembly of Virginia : ... petition of ... inhabitants of ... Frederick ... [oppose] granting to Quakers and Menonists an exemption from militia duty ...
Author: Inhabitants of Frederick County.
Place Issued: Winchester
Issuing Press: Uncertain
Description: 1 sheet [1 pg.]; 21 cm. x 20 cm. (broadside).
Notes
Petition seeks end to religious exemptions from militia service; repeats complaints made by Berkeley militia members to the preceding Assembly (1796.041); dated at end in manuscript "Dec. 8, 1797" by a clerk of the House of Delegates, indicating date of submission. Only known copy is held in the state archives at the Library of Virginia; therein, the word "Frederick" is crossed out and word "Berkeley" is inserted. Sheet lacks printer credit; clearly a Winchester imprint, but assigning a printer is speculative.
