Author: Virginia. General Assembly.

Place Issued: Richmond

Issuing Press: Augustine Davis

Description: 1 sheet [1 pg.]; (broadside, printed in two columns).

Notes

Sheet lacks printer credit; Bristol erroneously attributed this to John Dixon, the incumbent public printer; however Swem identified Augustine Davis as the printer based on the order to print the act separately from the session laws on January 8, 1788 in the house journal. During this Assembly, the responsibility for printing the session's records was split among the three Richmond presses headed by John Dixon, Augustine Davis, and Thomas Nicolson; Dixon was officially the public printer, having become the sole holder of that office on the death of his partner John Hunter Holt in June 1787, but his office was plagued by production delays, hence the division of the public work and the differing provenance attributions here. Reprinted as Chap. VII in the Acts of October 1787 in Hening's Statutes (XII: 457-462).
