Notes

Title was formal dissent of six members of of a meeting of delegates from 35 western Virginia counties at Staunton August 19-24, 1816; these delegates objected to the call for a convention that could dispose of Virginia's 1776 constitution entirely, asking instead for a limited convention to draft amendments only for that constitution. The original printed protest (1816.134) was received by the Assembly on November 20th. No copy known extant; Thomas Ritchie, the public printer, was ordered to print an additional 250 copies of this protest for the use of the Assembly in its deliberations, so attribution here to the partnership then conducting Ritchie's press
