Notes

Petitioners asked for an act to incorporate a company that would improve navigation on the Monongahela River northward toward Pittsburgh and the Ohio River; the Assembly took no action on this request during this session, as they were engaged in a larger discussion of how to accomplish such "internal improvements" with the need for a specific Act of Assembly.. Only known copy, held in the state archives at the Library of Virginia, lacks colophon; as that copy came from Harrison County inhabitants, this petition was likely printed in Clarksburg, the county seat; but the single press there changed hands sometime in fall of 1815 – from Forges & Alexander Britton to Gideon Butler & Alexander G. McRae – leaving the publisher of this title in some doubt, so the indeterminacy here.
