Notes

This extra edition of the Argus reported the capture of the Detroit area by American forces under the command of William Henry Harrison; Fort Malden (called Fort Amherstburg by the British) was the key defensive point on the Detroit River opposite the site of Fort Detroit; on September 26rh, British forces abandoned and burned the fort having lost their water-borne supply routes in the Battle of Lake Erie on September 10th; Harrison's letter of September 30th to Secretary of War John Armstrong was printed, in part, in the National Intelligencer on October 11th; this extra reprinted that account. The Virginia Argus was published by Samuel Pleasants from April 1793 to October 1814.
