Notes

A local reprinting of Chap. CXVIII of the Acts of the December 1803 Assembly, enacted into law on January 30, 1804, creating the first bank incorporated in the state.. Sole surviving copy, held by the John Carter Brown Library, carries caption title only with an undated printer's colophon on last page; as the newly-incorporated bank included a branch in Norfolk, this title undoubted issued shortly after the act's passage in order to facilitate the sale of shares to fund that Norfolk branch, so the date assigned here.
