Author: Julap, Giles [pseudonym]

Place Issued: Alexandria

Issuing Press: Uncertain

Notes

The two books satirize the philosophical and political idealism of Thomas Jefferson; text carries a two-page dedication to "Mrs. Minte G. Sling, James River, Virginia;" bibliographers of the past appear to take both author and dedicatee as real individuals, but the dedication makes considerable sport of drinkers in Virginia, clearly making those names references to "mint juleps" and "gin slings," hence the identification here of both as pseudonyms. Imprint carries just the date "March 1802." The only advertising seen for this title are found in Alexandria newspapers, placed by booksellers Robert & John Gray (April to June 1802), so the place assigned here; still, the multiple presses then there prevent a printer attribution.
