1799.063: Petition proposing Move of District Court to Centerville (A).

Published: 1799

Full Title: To the General Assembly of Virginia: the petition of the subscribers, inhabitants of the counties of Prince William, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Fauquier...

Author: Inhabitants of Prince William, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Fauquier.

Place Issued: Alexandria

Issuing Press: Uncertain

Description: 1 sheet [1 pg.]; 62 cm. X 22 cm. (broadside).

Petitioners ask that the District Court at Dumfries be moved west to Centerville. Sheet lacks printer credit; the only recorded copy held in the state archives at the Library of Virginia is dated at end in manuscript "Dec. 16, 1799" by a clerk of the House of Delegates, indicating date of submission, and so of production; residence of the petitioners indicates that this broadside probably issued from one of the two Alexandria presses that were then in operation, but without other evidence, attributing a specific press is purely speculative.
