1788.009: Circular Letter concerning Pensioners and Justices of the Peace.
Full Title: In Council, May 20, 1788. Gentlemen, I beg leave to submit to your particular attention, the acts of the executive hereto subjoined ... I have the honor, to be, with great respect, Your most obedient humble servant, Edmund Randolph ... Attest A. Blair, C.C.
Author: Virginia. Council of State.
Place Issued: Richmond
Issuing Press: John Dixon
Description: 1 sheet [1 pg.]; (broadside).
Sheet lacks printer credit; John Dixon was public printer from the death of his partner, John Hunter Holt, in June 1787, until his death in April 1791; while he was often compelled to subcontract the public work to Augustine Davis and Thomas Nicolson during the sessions of Assembly, Dixon readily produced the items required by the state's executive branch during the intervals between sessions. This letter clarifies the procedure for examining the veracity of pension claims and for the appointment of justices of the peace.
