Notes

Circular letter reporting the requirements for raising cavalry units embodied in the recently enacted "Act to amend the several acts respecting the Militia," reprinted as Chap. II of the Acts of October 1787 in Hening's Statutes (XII: 432-433). Sheet lacks printer credit; as with the Assembly of October 1786, responsibility for printing this session's documents was split among the three Richmond presses headed by John Dixon, Augustine Davis, and Thomas Nicolson; Dixon was officially the public printer, having become the sole holder of that office on the death of partner John Hunter Holt in June 1787, but his press office was beset with production delays, hence the division of the public work and the indeterminate provenance here. Only known copy held by the Virginia Historical Society.
