1786.010: Blank Commission Form.
Full Title: The Commonwealth of Virginia. To [blank] greeting: Known you that from the special trust and confidence which is reposed in your fidelity ...
Author: Virginia. Council of State.
Place Issued: Richmond
Issuing Press: Uncertain
Description: 1 sheet [1 pg.]; 21 cm. (broadside).
Only known copy in Patrick Henry Papers for 1786 at the Virginia Historical Society; blank spaces not completed. Sheet lacks printer credit; item would normally have been printed by the public printer, but the incumbent then, Dunlap & Hayes, was struggling to produce the records of the Assembly of October 1785, and would be removed from office in May 1786 for not having completed the work assigned to them. Previously, the executive had employed the Dixon & Holt press when that of Dunlap & Hayes was preoccupied with Assembly printing, and their firm would succeed to the public-printing concession in June 1786. So the press issuing this title was likely not Dunlap & Hayes, but either that of Dixon & Holt or of Thomas Nicolson, then printer to the Senate.
