Notes
The Early American Imprints Series filmed the copy of this imprint held by the John Carter Brown Library; that copy is inscribed "By Meriwether Smith Esq. Published 20th July 1783" in manuscript, establishing Smith as its author and specific date of publication. Smith objected to the treaty provisions that would allow British subjects to utilize the state's courts to recover debts incurred by Virginians prior to the Revolutionary War. This imprint is possibly the first issued by the newly-established Dixon & Holt press office.
